Partner Foods was founded in 1992 by Jonathan Davies and Edward Goddard. Trinidad born and raised, Jonathan and Edward were inspired by the popular West Indian chickpea snacks of their childhoods, and committed themselves to developing a tastier, lighter textured, wholesome snack made from whole chickpeas.
From the very outset our intention was to create a snack that would pass our three point test:
To date, Partner Foods are the only company specialising in roasted chickpea snacks, with sales increasing tenfold over the past decade. Chic Nuts are now available nationwide at Woolworths, Safeways, Coles and most Health Food Stores as well as many specialty stores.
The triple bottom line
Our company is motivated by a strong ethic, the triple bottom line, which holds that its profitability must never be gained at the expense of the community or the environment.
A cleaner and greener environment
Chickpeas not only produce a valuable crop but at the same time also provide a natural organic method of breaking the disease cycle in wheat and barley crops. This means less fungicide, less insecticide and a cleaner, greener environment.
Chickpeas are powerful nitrogen fixing legumes. Their deep root system plays an important role in stabilising soils and preventing erosion.
These clever little plants actually restore depleted soils. They may use little or no fertiliser while enhancing the fertility of the soil. They are a dry land agricultural crop, using no agricultural water. They even have a natural insecticide in their leaves, which keep the bugs away.
Our factory and the environment
The Chic Nuts factory is located near the picturesque town of Maleny on the lush pastures overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains. Every effort has been taken to ensure our factory is in harmony with its environment. And of course Chic Nuts come from the crops that restore Australian soils.
